Merry Christmas.

Freaking thieves. Thanks. The misses (Paige) and I promised her nephews that for their christmas present, I'd take 'em to the arcade to go nuts. So we did and I came out to this shit.  Ultra-shitty part - Paige just sold some of her shit to get some cash to buy christmas presents. That, along with every one of her forms of id was stolen. Oh yeah, and our christmas is supposed to be spent on a military base with my little brother in a few days. Wish us luck.

There. I had to bitch for a minute. I'm done now.

Could be a hell of a lot worse I suppose! It's just a window for me I've got to replace, no biggie.  Had a great time at the arcade with the boys though.  As I always say, what can ya do? I can replace a window, try to help her get a new form of id and get over it. So that's what I'm gonna do.

Drilled Disc

Got it from bloodfalcons.blogspot.com.  Time for me to start hoarding parts for the winter.

Tonight she turned over. Once.  I put the bars/headlight/visor thing back on and she wanted to turn over. One time and the battery had smoke coming out of it.  I'll try it again tomorrow and see what happens.

Busy

Lately I've been pretty busy.  I've got an extra job now, nights and weekends working at a chinese restaurant close to home.  It helps me pay for the necessary extra shit that comes up.  Right now it's tires and work on the car mostly.  Working 70+ hours a week consistently would seem a bit much to most I suppose but it's not all that bad.  Lesson learned from growing up welding and working in the steel factory with my family is hard work.  I believe in dreams but I also believe that this is a practical world and if you want something you've got to work for it.  The feeling you get working for what you have is unexplainable.  The clothes on my back, my bills, my hobbies, taking the misses to go out, I've worked for those things and I'm glad I did.  I enjoy owning the things I have and working for the things I want.

Also, I've acquired a ring last week.  Marriage is in the works and I'm excited about it.

I'll be moving downtown to the rivermarket in early January and if everything works out I'll have a warehouse space in a huge old brick building in the west bottoms to work out of with a cool dude I met on craigslist oddly enough.  I'm super pumped to have a real space to work on stuff and not have to spend my nights working at odd jobs but just doing whatever it is that inspires me. Whether it's motorcycles, cars, the skateboard, bicycles, throwing knives, crossbow or whatever else that comes up, I'll be a happy dude. Always am.
Cherry needs some serious TLC but I think she understands my situation.  Come spring I'll hopefully have a fresh coat of paint, lowered shocks, and completely changed rear section/bars and risers.

I don't always have to wear the silly hat.  Theres nothing in the wok now but I am on my way to becoming a fried rice/chow mein/chicken and pork expert!

New toy.

I got a go-ped today. It's an old one, for go-peds. I'm guessing late 80's. 2 stroke, I think about 30cc's. I'm excited.

Waiting for parts...

I look at how cool the new shocks from my dad are going to be on the Ironhead...

I watch my cat drink from my bathroom sink...

I try to piece together white lightnin'...

I change oil on my car and get free hats...

I look at the mold in my coffee cup...

I get a free vise and clean it...

I ship engine pieces back and forth from kansas to cali in hopes of getting it running someday...

I gaze longingly through the window of my car at other cool motorcycles out on the road...

to be continued...

Breakfast

Over pancakes and sausages on sticks, I decided to trace errr I mean draw this to see how it would look. I'm not an artist at all but I figure it gets the point across.

oops.

I don't remember how it goes back together, but it was fun taking it apart.

Fuck deer.

Hands down, the fastest thing that's ever happened to me. Doing about 55, riding by a guardrail through some trees, deer pops over in front of the Ironhead and BAM. Dead silence for a split second, I hit the pavement on my back/left shoulder and then the scraping sound from the bike sliding down the road. I didn't have time to feel a thing or form a complete thought. I just remember trying to get myself to stop sliding and rolling down the pavement but I had no control. I ended up on my hands and knees facing the pavement. Luckily for me an old farmer was following me in his pickup when this happened and he came over, got the bike off the road and called the police for me.

I'm fucking proud of the Ironhead. Now I know old Harleys, well Harleys in general catch alot of shit about being shitty bikes. Especially the AMF era Harleys. Also, especially sportsters. After this whole incident I was actually able to ride the fuckin thing home. No front brake, bars all out front and weird but thats really the worst of it and she made it home. I made it home. I'm a little scraped up and sore as fuck, but I'm one happy dude.

Also. I was wearing a lid but my lid never touched the ground. My gloves and backpack saved my ass. I am now a backpack and glove supporter.

$2 Lid

Next door to the girlfriend's grandma's house lived an old hoarder. That hoarder died. They were going to hold an auction the next week for all of his stuff. 6 foot piles of stuff all over the yard, required a skidloader to separate the shit. I walked over and took a look and found this. It's a Comet Deluxe by Nesco, '50's or '60's. Has a few different visors with it, the bubble shield is some super thick lexan. Came in the original packaging, plastic and foam, unopened. Of course I had to open it and put it on. It'll be used eventually. All for $2.

Come together

I found a part! It's coming together. I guess I could consider this the first step for Cherry. I picked up the steel fender for $15. I found a fiberglass one for 20 and a different raw steel one for 120. I opted for this one. Cherry will become a solo bike, fingers crossed, after this winter.

I'm still kicking myself for not getting an oil tank today though. There will be more swap meets to come. My plan is to customize the Ironhead into MY bike, without chopping up the frame (Dad's condition on the deal) and without altering the stock components, the way it sits now. I'll keep all the stock shit and put it away, until future generations may want to have her restored to her original glory, years and years and years down the road.

Swap meeeeeeeeeet

is this Sunday again. Just a heads up. At the Twin Drive-in. The drive in is located on 291 Hwy, 6 miles north of I-70, in Independence, MO (East of Downtown Kansas City).
$5 per person, 7am to 2pm. Google Jeff Williams swap meet. On a better note. Don't go. I want all the cheap parts. All to myself.

Put your party pants on...

...because it's Tuesday! Today we will celebrate not spending any money. Some hackerman got my to my card and she had to go. Tryin' to reserve a fancy hotel in Aruba or some shit. Good thing I bank at a small bank, they called me up this morning and said, "Hey Jimmy, we saw on your card you're reserving a hotel in Aruba for 600 bucks?" Fuck no that ain't me!...and I didn't have to pay that shit, but I did have to annihilate the card. I was wondering why everyone has been declining my card the last few days, I just figured I was broke again! Also, for future reference, I thought the Budweiser 40 oz would be a good idea but I realized it is not. A quarter down and it's warm as fuck already. Good night.

That hat.

An essential. That hat. My favorite hat. I lost my last one on the bike so now I have a new and improved one.

Mania Part 2!

Scooters, mopeds, choppers, bicycles, cafe racers, bobbers or whatever, were all welcome at the mania. A few things that caught my attention...

1976 harley did not come stock with Bendix carb?

In anticipation for the motorcycle mania happening this Saturday at the Beaumont Club's Backyard, I needed to get Cherry up and running. This required a new throttle cable, which I was able to obtain, fo' free... from Blue Star Motorcycles over on Troost here in KC. The harley mechanic there told me that in 1976, there was no Bendix carburetor that came stock. Also, he said that there is no way that there is just a bolt pinching the throttle cable to the butterfly valve on the carb. So he fitted me with a throttle cable for a Keihin carb, refused payment from me and away I went...

Well he was wrong, I thought so at the shop but hey what the hell do I know? I'm just a kid with an old ironhead, right? It did come stock in '76 with a Bendix, which is on the bike, and yes there is just a bolt pinching the throttle cable to hold it in. It's shitty engineering and yes there should be a ferrule end for both ends but that's not the way it was apparently, oh well. With help from dad, who rode up from barnes for the mania, we made her work.
The cable was too short, I cut a section of sleeve out and...

...watched dad come up with an idea for a connection.

I used the metal elbow for the throttle housing off of my old cable, and the cable housing/cable from the new cable.

I drilled out the guide for the other end of the throttle cable to accommodate the new cable housing. New housing is slightly larger than old, although the cable is thinner.

I put the ends of the cable section I cut out together...

...and with dad's ingenuity, used a Dillon's (has to be Dillon's) pen for a solid sleeve for the spliced cable so it doesn't fold on me.

Finishing up the process, I made sure to watch dad tape up the handy dandy Dillon's sleeve while I had my beer and took pictures. I put the tank/air filter back on, took her for a test ride, and she work's great! Motorcycle Mania - we are ready for you.

Calling all two-wheelers!!!!

Is this Saturday! Doesn't matter what it is, as long as it's on two wheels, its free!

1st break down on the ironhead....

Snapped the throttle cable, about an inch above the carb where it attaches to the valve. Decided to make use of the bicycle lane to make my way around some cars, snapped the throttle to make it through and the cable snapped. Luckily enough I was just on a beer run about a half mile out. This was my way home, right hand to pull on the cable after a quick fix and it actually worked pretty good!
